Gluten free / dairy free sea salt caramel dipping sauce
dairy free caramel sauce, dairy free caramel dip, caramel dip, caramel sauce, sea salt caramel
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup unsweeteed almond milk (can also use regular milk or other dairy alternates)
- 2 tablespoons coconut oil, melted (I use spectrum naturals brand as it doesn't have the strong coconut flavor other coconut oils have.)
- 1/4 teaspoon coarse sea salt
- 1 cup sugar
- 3 tablespoons water
- Sliced apples
Directions
1.
|
| Mix almond milk, melted coconut oil and sea salt; set aside. |
2.
|
| Heat sugar and water over medium heat, stirring until dissolved. Bring to a boil. |
3.
|
| Boil without stirring until sugar mix turns a light amber color. Be careful on this step--if you don't watch the mixture closely it goes from the perfect color to burned in a flash! (trust me, I burned the dickens out of my first batch!) |
4.
|
| As soon as the mixture turns a medium amber color, remove from heat and let cool for a few minutes. |
5.
|
| Slowly whisk in the milk mixture; be careful as the sugar mixture is very hot and will sputter and froth when you add the milk mixture. Whisk well and pour into a serving bowl. |
6.
|
| Cool in refrigerator, stirring occasionally. |
7.
|
| Serve with apples. **Can also be used as an ice cream topping |
